1sts took the field with a lot of new combinations which had clicked well in the trial matches. Wests went out to a 17-9 lead at halftime and 3 minutes from the end led 32-27, however Associates scored out wide and missed the conversion to end 32-32 all. West's took 3 competition points from the game as they scored 4 tries to Soaks 3. At one stage during the 2nd half West's played with 13 men as they had two players in the bin, 1 for a high tackle and 1 for dissent. More discipline is needed guys. Player of the day was Kiti Fuluna, whilst Brad Linklater scored 1 try, 3 conversion, a penalty and a field goal. Others to score tries were Ben White, Luke Coleman, and 2nd half replacement and U20's Captain, Mitch Hyde, who used his pace to run through the Associates team from his own 22 to score in the corner, a top effort. Next week is Kalamunda out at Kalamunda and will need a big effort.

2nds only really got together on the Thursday night before the game, with 1 or 2 new faces turning up on the day. Unfortunately they went down 43-12, however there is enough talent there for this team to become a formidable side, once they practice together. Tries to Sam Leaaetoa and Tristan Abbot and a conversion to C.B.

3rds were much the same as 2nds, only getting together on the Thursday before and a number of guys turning up on the day, although they were short of a prop. Despite this they only lost 13-7, which was a very good effort. Try scorer was Dwayne Henderson, whilst Aaron Broughton converted. As with 2nds, once this team trains together with Paul taking the backs and Plimms the forwards, then this team could easily make the four.

5ths took to the field having not really played together before and with one practice run. The team contained some classy players of yesteryear. Unfortunately after around 25 minutes play 1st five Andrew Robertson (Doobs) broke his leg badly and the game was abandoned with West's leading 10-5. Steve Freeman scored a try and converted whilst Dwayne Grace kicked a penalty.

Under 20's took the field with a lot of expectation, only to be outplayed by a fit Associates team and went down 24-3. The scorer of a penalty for the team was Daniel Corsbie. This team can improve immensely, however some players need to have a serious look at their fitness levels as that stood out during the game, whilst some poor refs decisions didn't help.

Under 18's took the field looking very sharp as the bulk of the team are from Aranmore School and have been playing in the John Welbourne Cup, so had good combinations and fitness. This proved so on the day with West's coming out winners 54-0. Tries to Paeahi Tamati, Zac Silulu (2), Coree Mahu (2), Heremaiah Te Aute, Trent Griffin, and Daniel Groves, whilst Sheldon Tarawa kicked 7 conversions. I believe this side can go all the way and take the flag. These players are the Club's future and in 3 or 4 years most of them could be playing 1st Grade.
