Saturday 14th July saw most Wests grades head to Kingsway to play Wanneroo, whilst 3rds headed to Joondalup to play the leaders in their grade.

4ths won by default from Wanneroo, finding out Friday morning that they didn't have a game, however it was disappointing none of them showed to stand by for 3rds, considering they will have gone two weeks without a game and have 2nd placed Southern Lions to play next Saturday.

Colts took the field against a Wanneroo team that was a couple of points above them on the ladder and knowing a win would take them into the Div.2 top four. They started well by opening the scoring and with a number of players playing out of position or with niggling injuries, they kept hammering away and running the bigger Wanneroo pack out of puff and prevailed to the tune of 40 points to 12. Tries to Dan Corsbie, Semi Soqoiwasa (2) in his last game before heading back to Fiji, Jesse Mitchell, Keith Bradley, and Mike Lane who had a good game at hooker, whilst Pete Powderly slotted 5 conversions, all in all a top team effort.

3rds played top side Joondalup at Iluka and without a number of players in key positions, managed to scrap together 16 players, with some guys playing half a game in 2nds, then heading across to Joondalup to play. From what Player Captain/Coach Richy Hyde told me, 3rds upset Joondalup's game plan, and ended up winning 18 points to 15, a very gutsy effort with great passion shown by the guys. Tries to Razor (Mike Reylands), who also scored one in the first half of 2nd grades game, and Dave Louw, whilst Paul Connelly kicked 2 penalties and a conversion. A good win guys.

2nds played Wanneroo in a game they knew would not be easy, and before they knew it were down 14 points to nil, going in at half time 14-7 down. A big effort was required in the 2nd half and although they tried hard, with a number of different players in the team they lacked combinations and went down 17 points to 14. Whilst some of the refereeing decisions were diabolical, 2nds will need to get their dicipline in order, as being marched a number of times for backchat certainly didn't help their cause. Tries to Razor, Hayden Hamilton and conversions to Craig Barrett and Doobs (Andrew Robertson).

1sts also played Wanneroo, knowing that a win and 5 points on the ladder was what was required. One of the 2 new English lads started at Prop (Mark Livesey), whilst openside flanker Ben Roundtree played the 2nd half after a run in 2nds. Wests opened the scoring through Elliot Kulhmann-Hall, who scored 2 tries before dislocating his shoulder, his run of injuries continuing this season unfortunately. Wests continued the pressure and went into half time leading 38 points to 5. The 2nd half took some time for either side to score points and was a bit more even than the 1st, with Wests winning the game 67 points to 22. Tries to Kane Allen (3), Tom Alexander, Simon Daff, E.K-H (2), Hendrik Jansie Vans Rensburg, Mark Livesey, and Kevin Williams whilst Kane Allen kicked 6 conversions. A very good win against an opposition who toughed it out but were never in the hunt. However it will be a different story against Paly next Saturday, where once again we must win to keep our finals hopes alive.
