ROUND 13 RESULTS

Round 13 kicked off on Sat. 21/07/07 with 1sts, 2nds and 3rds at Palmyra, whilst 4ths and Colts were down the road at Southern Lions.

Colts played Southern Lions at Murdoch and after a number of phone calls as the Lions were wanting to start early, to complete all games and watch the Bledisloe live it didn't happen as the right people in the Wests club were not contacted and could not pass on the information. Colts had a new player who had flown in from N.Z. the night before, in Mitch Hyde, who is here to stay permanently and he capped his game with 2 tries, whilst the Wests side ran out winners to the score of 53 points to 12. Gus Bradley the Coach stated it was a good all round performance and consolidates their spot in the Div.2 top four.

4th Grade also played the Lions who were in 2nd place on the ladder and they knew they were up for a hard game. Unfortunately they went down 8 points to nil, thereby missing the bonus point, however they still have a very good chance of making the four.

3rds kicked off procedings at Palmyra, looking to inflict revenge for a first round loss by 4 points. They started off very well with new half back Shaun Williams having an outstanding game, his generalship keeping the team on track to post a great win by 39 points to 7. Paul Connelly scored 3 tries and Alex Bruce two, whilst Dan Broughton and Adam Arkell got 1 each. A top team effort and but for a few narrow losses, could have been in the four.

2nds followed on and played with the strong wind in the first half and led 22points to nil at half time. Turning into the wind in the 2nd half didn't trouble them as they posted another 46 unanswered points, winning 68 points to nil and with Kalamunda losing to Perth, pushed them into third spot on the ladder, with the chance to finish second. A general all over team performance with Laurence Patalesio taking the player of the day.

1sts took the field knowing how important a win was for their finals aspirations, and after going out to a 7 to nil lead after 10 minutes with a try to Ephraim Stephens, they conceded two tries and went into half time 15 points to 7 down, having played with the wind. Wests clawed back to 15-13 down mid way through the second half and after an all in brawl that saw 2nd rower Hine Edwards sent off (later to be cleared by the Judiciary on video), Palmyra scored in the corner right on full time and took the score to Palmyra 20, Wests 13. The bonus point will help, but it is must win stuff from here on in, in the next 5 rounds, whilst relying on other results, but it can be done. Good luck to all teams for this coming Saturday.
