ROUND 14 RESULTS

Saturday 28/07/07 saw Wests host Rockingham at Rosalie Park, where the Tim Beale Trophy was at stake in 1st Grade.

Colts had a bye this weekend so got 5 points on the ladder and a 25-0 win.

4th Grade played Rockingham and were out to turn around a close 1st round loss. In a game that seasawed up and down the field with the lead changing hands several times, Wests went into the last 10 minutes leading 13 points to 8, however they muffed the restart letting the ball go into tounch inside their 22 and Rockingham put on pressure from the ensuing lineout and scored in the corner, the game ending at 13 points all. Tries to Ian McLeod and Shaun Lingham and 1 penalty to Steve Freeman.

3rds played Mandurah who were in 4th place on the ladder, about 3 spots ahead of Wests. The home side going into half time 10 points to nil in front. However Mandurah came back in the second half and scored 2 tries, 1 converted, whilst Nathan Wooten scored after some good follow through work and 3rds ended up continuing their winning streak by 15 points to 12.

2nds played Rockingham knowing 5 points on the ladder was needed. They made hard work of it in the first half and went to half time leading 8 points to 6, not taking easy points on offer with penalties awarded in front of the posts and establishing a solid lead. The second half showed the Wests team having superior fitness and with a Rockingham player red carded halfway through, they ran in another 4 tries and won 34 points to 9. The second half was a far better effort than the first.

1sts took the field knowing that a 4 try win was needed to keep their finals hopes alive, and the Tim Beale Trophy was at stake. Rockingham came out firing and by halftime Wests were down 22 points to Nil. Replacements were made at halftime with Greg Plimmer, Scooter and Pugs going on which made a big difference, however although 1sts scored 19 unanswered points, they had given Rockingham too big a 1st half lead and lost 19 points to 22. The team is basically playing for pride in these last four games of the season, and need to lift their sights and target a strong finish.
