ROUND 18 RESULTS

Saturday 22nd August saw Wests at Rosalie Park playing Nedlands in Grades 1 to 4 and Under 20’s playing Kalamunda on an overcast day with showers.

Under 20's: Under 20’s kicked off the proceedings playing Kalamunda needing a win or at least a bonus point and hope that Cottesloe didn’t score 42 points or more against Nedlands Blue, to get 4th spot on the ladder and qualify for the finals. This was always going to be a tough one as Kala had beaten Wests out at Hartfield earlier in the season. Wests got on the board first, through a massive 44 metre penalty kicked by Dean Clarkson after 15 minutes. The game was an arm wrestle and playing with the wind Wests knew they needed more points, which came with a try by Ricky Unasa, however the ball blew off the tee for the conversion and Dean Clarkson’s had to pick it up and take a drop goal conversion attempt which was unsuccessful. Halftime 8-0 to Wests. Kala turned with the wind and 20 or so minutes in scored a penalty to make it 8-3 to Wests. The game was very even territory and possession wise, however Kala scored a try out wide with about 10 to go and it was deadlocked at 8-8. Wests knew a draw would make them safe in 4th spot but they had to withstand a lot of pressure from Kala, keeping them out on two occasions by holding them up over the line. The players, coaches, managers and supporters were glad to hear the final whistle, and they get to play Kala again in two weeks time in the elimination final at Rockingham Club. Player of the Day was Mark Cornell who got $50 for his efforts courtesy of Geoff Little of G.L.Little & Associates and Lumsden Construction.

3rd Grade: 3rds played Nedlands up on field two at the same time as 20’s and put in a very good effort with a makeshift team and with 15 minutes to go were down 8-3. They had a good chance to go in front with a three man overlap but a poor pass let the movement down. Nedlands got away from them in the last 10 minutes and Wests went down 3-20. Dan Broughton kicked a penalty and was also Player of the Day, picking up $25 courtesy of Geoff Little’s companies mentioned above.

4th Grade: 4th followed on playing an unbeaten Nedlands side whom they will come up against in two weeks time down at Rockingham Club in the Major Semi Final. Coach Rick Pearton rested a couple of his better players so as not to show his hand to Neddies and in a close game Wests went down 7-14. Scott Blakemore scored a great try and converted it to take him past 100 points for the season and was also Player of the Day picking up $25 courtesy of Geoff Little’s companies.

2nd Grade: 2nds played an unbeaten Nedlands down on field 1 and knew they were in for a tough game. They tried very hard, however they couldn’t hold Neddies out and went down 14-44. Try scorers were Tom Debuf and Willie Lio whilst Craig Barrett kicked 2 conversions. Player of the day was Michael Perkins who received $50 from Geoff Little’s Companies for his efforts.

1st Grade: 1sts followed on from seconds and knew they had a tough task against a Neddies side that had won 8 on the trott. Nedlands played with the wind in the first half and by halftime led 29-0. The second half was a much closer affair with Luke Coleman scoring and Mike Marshall converting, whilst Nedlands kicked two penalties and scored a try to make the final score 7-41 to Nedlands. Player of the Day was Captain Chris Miles who received $100 for his efforts from Geoff Little’s companies.
