Saturday 13th June, saw Wests host Kalamunda for 1st to 4th Grade and Southern Lions for Under 18’s, at Rosalie Park.

1st Grade: Played Kalamunda who had recently recruited 5 or 6 big forwards. Wests let in Kalamunda with barely 2 minutes on the clock and from there Kala controlled the match. Wests however never gave up and it was missed first tackles that once again proved very costly with Kala winning 29-83. Wests scored 5 tries however and secured their 2nd bonus point of the season, which was a good effort from very young side. Try scorers were Matt O’Brien (2), Heremaia Te Aute (2) and Mike Marshall, whilst Peter Powderly kicked 2 conversions. Player of the day was Jason Leatherby-Hohaia.

2nd Grade: Took on Kalamunda and the score was 0-0 until around the 30th minute mark, when Wests scored a try to lead 5-0 at the break. After the restart it was all one way traffic as Wests let in 3 easy tires and Kalamunda went on to win 17-35. Try scorers for Wests were Paul Connelly, James Beattie, and Willie Lio whilst Craig Barrett kicked a conversion. Player of the Day was number 10, Nathan Huntley.

3rd Grade: 3rd Grade played Kalamunda on Field 1 and were struggling for numbers and were taking on a Kala side that were near the top of the table. Wests struggled to compete but never gave up and went down 12-41. Scorers for Wests were Tristan Abbott and Dirk Funnekotter, whilst Dan Broughton kicked a conversion. Player of the day was Darren Doyle.

4th Grade: 4ths played Kalamunda up on Field 2 and scored a great try by Andrew Robertson after some good build up work and it was converted by Scotty Blakemore to go out to a 7-0 lead. Gary Jowett also kicked a penalty but Kala replied with 2 unconverted tries so the score ended up a 10 all draw. The game was called off a few minutes early as a Kala player suffered a neck injury and needed hospital treatment. Wests hopes he has recovered and is fit and well.

U20's: Under 20’s won by default from Nedlands Blue so recorded a 25-0 win.

U18's: Started off the program of games and were scratching for numbers prior to the start however they managed to get 15 on the field and won by 47-13. Try scorers were Cam Davey, Nick McLennon, Anaru Broughton, Alex Wolman, Chesney Rose, Coree Mahu, Chris Woods and Walter Koteka who also kicked a conversion and a penalty. This was 18’s last match as we have always struggled for numbers and all the players are moving up to 20’s.
