Round 8 saw all 5 Wests Senior Club teams head to Allen Park to play Associates. The day started with Under 19's taking on Associates Gold (their top Colts side). Both sides cancelled each other out in the first 15 minutes or so, with Wests possibly having the better territorial advantage.
About 25 minutes in Adam Scari (who was playing half a game for Colts) ran straight through his marker and scored under the posts with Peter Powderly converting. The second half started with Wests failing to secure a kick off and Associates powering to the line to score. Wests kicked a penalty through Peter Powderly and then Soaks scored again to take it out to 12-10 to Soaks.
With a couple of minutes on the clock Wests forwards through Tom DeBuf, Rhys King, and Frank Barker took the ball forward and set it up beautifully for Keith Bradley, whilst Peter Powderly set himself up for the field goal which he calmly slotted over from 35 metres out, score 13-12 to Wests and the final whistle blew. Good games from the aforementioned, as well as Caleb Condor, Nathan Venner (playing against his old Club), Charl Gale, Semi Soqoiwasa, Sam Cogin and Russell Chapman.
3rds played on field 2 at the same time and held a Soaks side who didn't look that impressive to 3-0 for most of the first half. Half time saw a 6-0 lead to Soaks, both penalties from some very ordinary reffing decisions, however it got worse in the second half with the ref having only one eye for offside around the ruck and maul and that was against Wests, with 3rds eventually going down 19 points to nil. Good games from Dan Broughton, Mike Reyland (Razor), Richie Hyde, Ryan McAlister and Alex Bruce.
4ths went out after 3rds taking on a Soaks side second on the ladder and who had lost only 1 game. 4ths started off as though they were on fire and quickly went out to a 5-0 lead. From there it was all one way traffic as Soaks were not allowed into the game and Wests prevailed to the tune of 27
points to nil. A great win, putting 4ths well within reach of making the four. Top games from John Suckling, Brad Downey, Scott Blakemore, Dave Ritchie (Doris), Dave Louw, Shaun Lingham, however all in all a top team effort.
2nds took on a Soaks side unbeaten after 7 rounds. In a tight game Craig Barrett opened the scoring with a penalty and late in the half kicked a second. Soaks went on to score a try out wide, but CB kicked a third penalty and Wests held out to win 9 points to 5. Good games from Ephraim Stephens, Chris Miles, Pat Byron, Doobs, Hayden Hamilton, Greg Plimmer, Mat O'Brien, Robbie Keen, C.B., and Joji Soqoiwasa. One thing needed seconds is to get your lineout sorted!!!!
1sts took the field knowing a win was needed. In a very dour game with no tries scored, Associates prevailed 9 points to 6, all points from penalties. Wests did a lot of defending in the first half and Associates went close a couple of times. The second half see-sawed up and down the field with
neither side being able to break the line. Good games from Dave Von Kotze, Leon Felton, Cooper Mateo, Kiti Fuluna, and Jarred McGreevey in the lineout. Big effort needed in 2 weeks against Cottesloe.
